Every informal settlement begins with a land invasion, says the Economic Freedom Fighters national chairperson, Dali Mpofu.
“There are a number of townships that government was forced to formalise after landless people decided to arrive and settle there, unannounced.
“There are more than 3 000 informal settlements throughout the country. They are nothing but land-occupation projects. Nobody gave those people the land. They invaded it,” he said.
The EFF made headlines over the past six months when its members invaded vacant land and built shacks.
