South Africa’s opposition party Democratic Alliance (DA) on Friday strongly rejected the land reform policies which set ceilings for commercial farms.
The latest proposals put forward by Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Gugile Nkwinti, “fly squarely in the face of the Constitution and the rights entrenched in it”, said Annette Steyn, DA Shadow Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
“The Constitution is unambiguous in its protection of the Rule of Law, the right to due process and the right to private land ownership,” Steyn said.
In his budget vote speech in Parliament, Nkwinti came up with policy proposals on the ceilings on farms for both natural and juristic persons.
