Constitutionality of Expropriation Bill questioned in Parliament

The Expropriation Bill is inconsistent with the Constitution, the South African Institute of Race Relations argued in Parliament on Tuesday.
The bill is up for discussion in Parliament’s portfolio committee on public works.
The institute has not ruled out the possibility of challenging the bill in the Constitutional Court, were it to be passed and enacted.
The committee began the first day of public hearings on the Expropriation Bill on Tuesday and heard inputs from Eskom, the Centre for Constitutional Rights and the Banking Association of SA, among others.
