At 83, Zembe Masina feels his days are numbered and he is fighting attempts to dispossess him of the land on which he has lived for nearly four decades.
Pembani Coal Carolina, a company owned by one of SA’s leading businessmen, former MTN boss Phuthuma Nhleko, has been blasting around the Twyfelaar Farm in Mpumalanga, where Masina’s parents are buried.
“I want to fix this before I die so that my children will have a home,” Masina told Sowetan yesterday.
Masina and his two sons, Vusi and Themba, have asked the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate Pembani Coal for what they believe are attempts to ultimately dispossess the family of the portion of the farm in Carolina on which they live.
