Pietermaritzburg – Msunduzi municipality’s plans to purchase desperately needed burial land in Lamonts Vale may have been scuppered after it was discovered that only 20% of the land is suitable for burial.
A geotechnical investigation revealed that 20% of the land was suitable, 40% was “partially unsuitable” and 40% completely unsuitable. It was initially thought as much as 80% of the land was suitable for burial.
Councillors decided to stand the matter down until more detailed reports on the land become available.
