South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma says the 1913 cut-off date for land claims should be pushed back and that the government cannot address poverty, inequality, unemployment without fundamentally addressing the land issue.
Twenty two years after the end of apartheid, the land question and redress remains an emotive and thorny issue in South Africa and many feel the ANC led government has failed people dispossessed of their land during apartheid.
