Pietermaritzburg – Msunduzi Municipality has secured 10 hectares of land at the Ethembeni Memorial Park in an effort to alleviate a shortage of burial space.
Ten of 30 hectares of land previously secured for housing, will be used for burials, as the land already had an approved environmental authorisation.
There are currently only two operating cemeteries within Msunduzi municipality — eight are closed. Mountain Rise cemetery is in a crisis with burials taking place on road reserves.
